Answers to some of our most commonly asked questions...
 
What is a bialy?
  • A bialy (pronounced “Bee-AH-lee) is a roll that is baked (not boiled before baking like a bagel) with poppy seeds and onions on it. It also lacks a hole.
Do you guys ever close?
  • Yes, when the bar rush comes to a halt it is lights out at BnD. On Sundays and Mondays we close at 1:00 AM. If more people would head Uptown on these nights we would stay open late to accommodate them. In the summer things slow down and we just stay open for the bar rush on Friday and Saturday.
Do you sell gift certificates?
  • Yes. There are two ways to get them. You can stop by the store and pick some up or you can order them on this site under the Merch/Swag tab.  
Where can I get a steamer of my own?
  • Steamers are expensive - expect to pay over $1400– but any restaurant supply shop can get them for you if you really want one. On the other hand, for about $1400 you can get to Oxford from most anywhere in the world if you are really jonesing for a bagel.
Where’s your bathroom?
  •  We don’t have a public one. Stop in at 2:30 AM on a Friday night and you will see why.
I’m going to be a first year at Miami next year. Can I have a job?
  • First of all, you are not a first year, you are a freshman and no, you cannot have a job. Generally we don’t hire freshman. If we do, it is not until second semester is about ½ way over. College is a big adjustment and if your grades are not up to your (or your parents) expectations the first thing to go is usually the job. We like our employees to stick with us until they graduate and this is one of our ways of ensuring that they do. (By the way, it is generally the partying and not the job that contributes to the not so great grades.)
How can I get a bagel named after me, my cause, my friend, my fetish, etc…?
  • Make a sign, laminate it and bring it in. We might hang it up. If we do and it sells extremely well we might keep it. Most bagels brought in do not make the cut even though many of them are quite tasty. With so many bagel sandwiches already on the menu, it is difficult to make a new one permanent so don’t feel bad if your new creation does not get framed.
Do you franchise?
  • No, we are not a franchise and we are content to be a one of a kind place.  Our other locations are independently owned and operated (mostly by former employees).
